BROOKS.

   REV. CHARLES, s. of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Albree) Brooks, was b. at Medford, Mass., Oct. 30, 1795, and grad. at Har. Coll. 1816.   He was ord. pastor of the Third Cong. Soc. in Hing. Jan. 17, 1821.   In 1838 he was elected Prof. of Natural History in the University of New York.   This position, with the concurrence of his parish, was accepted, and on Jan. 1, 1839, his connection with the parish in Hing. ceased.   A full account of his published writings, as well as of the interest he took in the cause of education, and in various scientific and philanthropic subjects may be found in another part of this history.   He m. first, June 27, 1827, Cecilia, dau. of the Hon. Roger Wolcott Williams of Brooklyn, Conn.   She d. in Hing. 13 March, 1837, æt. 35 yrs.   He m. secondly, Aug. 1, 1839, Mrs. Charlotte Ann Haven Lord of Portsmouth, N. H.   She d. at P. Nov. 1869.   He d. at Medford, 7 July, 1872, æt. 77th yr.   Resided while in Hing. on Main St., next S. E. of the old meeting-house.

Sept. 2, 1747.   He m. first, Dec. 22, 1764, Mrs. Jane Doane.   She d. and he m. secondly Hepzibah Ames.   After her decease he m. for his third w. Oct. 15, 1788, wid.
