12 In memory of James Thomas, Esq., æ 72. (Graduate of H. U., 1778, died Jan. 28, 1828. He was a magistrate and a representative, and married Mary Holbrook, a granddaughter of Elisha Pierce, of Scituate, who married Sarah, a daughter of Capt. Josiah Edson, of Bridgewater.
So soon our hopes decay, our comforts fly,
And joys but bloom to fade and live to die;
To name his virtues ill befits my grief
What was my bliss can now give no relief.
O thou beyond, what voice or speech can tell!
My guide, my friend, my best beloved, farewell.
